Consulting Slam Producer: Lyric Lounge
The Lyric Lounge is a season of vibrant spoken word festivals, bringing international artists to share the stage with local performers and participants. The programme celebrates lyrical prose, music and rhyme, in accessible venues across the East Midlands. It is part of Igniting Ambition, the East Midlands’ contribution to the Cultural Olympiad, and is a Writing East Midlands project.
Consulting Slam Producer: Mouthy
Mouthy command and coordinate their words, voices and careers through writing, performance and event coordination workshops. The young people of Mouthy learn to explore who they want to be through writing, editing and performance. Moreover they are then given the opportunity to create, coordinate and market the very events they perform their poems in. As a result Mouthy are not just wordsmiths; they are editors, marketing directors, teachers, hosts and managers. Their last event, Say Sum Thin III, brought hundreds of people to Nottingham Playhouse with eight hours of workshops, live performances, open mics, treasure hunts, art exhibitions, raving and headliners Jacob Sam-La Rose, Joshua Bennett and Akala.
Venue Partner: Nottingham Playhouse
Nottingham Playhouse has been one of the UK’s leading producing theatres since its foundation in 1948. Touring work nationally and internationally, they create productions large and small: timeless classics, enthralling family shows and adventurous new commissions. Nottingham Playhouse has worked with a variety of poetic artists including OneNess, Best Kept Secret, Kat François, Zena Edwards, Kevin Fegan and Malika Booker amongst others. Nottingham Playhouse is excited that their resident artists, the Mouthy Poets, are the Consulting Slam Producers for the Shake the Dust project. Nottingham Playhouse enjoys partnerships with many other major companies and is delighted to be working with Writing East Midlands and Apples and Snakes to raise the profile of Slam Poetry in the region.
