So time is ticking until the National Shake the Dust Weekend springs itself on us on 5-7 July at the Southbank Centre. We’ve already had the highest scoring team of the first Regional Final in the East region book their rightful place at the Final, but now it’s time for you to join in the fun and watch young people pour out their hearts in such an emotive, confident and poetic way. It will be truly inspiring to see live performance poetry right in front of your eyes!

But what you may not know is that this National Shake the Dust Weekend will be showcasing the best in what performance poetry has to offer with some of the most talented spoken word artists performing including Kate Tempest, Saul Williams, Lemn Sissay, and Dizraeli (mixing it with the Small Gods). There will also be a delegation from First Wave, the US’s first spoken word and hip-hop university programme, showing us how it’s done across the pond.

The headline act for The National Shake the Dust Final is award-winning British hip-hop artist Speech Debelle. Passionate about spoken word from a young age, Mercury Prize Award-winning British hip-hop artist Speech Debelle is a wonderfully honest hybrid of spoken word and hip-hop in today’s culture.
