Shake the Dust is the largest national poetry slam project the UK has ever seen. It’s for young people aged 13 – 16 and will be happening in the run up to the Olympics Summer 2012.

Poetry slam started in Chicago in the 1980s and is a way for poets all over the world to bring poetry off the page and make it relevant to everyone. A slam is a competition, but you’ll often find the audience shouting: “the points are not the point; the point is poetry!”; slam’s unofficial motto. It’s really about giving people a stage and celebrating the power of words.
